CHILI COOK-OFF RULES

March 27^th, 2015

• 1.      Basic Chili Cooking Rules
• a.       Chili should be prepared from scratch
• b.      Be prepared in as sanitary manner as     possible
• c.       You must be willing to taste your own chili
• 2.      Each Team is Responsible to Bring:
• a.       Chili- we encourage you to cook your chili off site and then bring it in a crockpot. However, the Expressions Home Gallery full kitchens will be available for you to utilize, so you may heat your chili on one of the provided burners as an alternative.
• b.      Any Pots, pans, knives, cutting boards etc. needed to prepare and or serve your chili and condiments
• c.       Any condiments you wish to serve alongside the chili after judging (cheese, chopped onions, chips, beans, rice, etc.)
• d.      Any marketing materials you wish to hand out
• e.       A list of ingredients used to prepare your chili (just in case someone with a food allergy or sensitivity asks)
• f.        If you will be using a crockpot, please bring an extension cord.
• 3.      Set Up/Tear Down
• a.       Teams can arrive at Morrison as early as 1pm to set up.
• b.      Each team will be assigned a station.
• c.       You may use any of Morrison’s kitchen appliances found in your station, such as refrigerators, sinks, stoves & ovens.
• d.      Each team needs to have chili ready for tastings starting at 4pm.
• e.       Each team is responsible for cleaning their area upon the event’s conclusion.
• 4.      Judging
• a.       A single score takes into consideration the following five criteria:
• 1.      Aroma
• 2.      Consistency
• 3.      Color
• 4.      Taste
• 5.      Aftertaste
• b.      Each cup of chili will be scored on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest.
• 5.      Awards
• a.       There will be a panel of judges that will select 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place winners.
• b.      There will also be a People’s Choice Award.
• 6.      Miscellaneous
• a.       Tasting bowls, spoons, paper towels & trash bags will be provided
• b.      Beer & wine will be provided on site
• c.       We will have live music
